Spring is here – it’s time to go outside
Comments Off on Spring is here – it’s time to go outsideSpring arrives today. Though the snow on the ground, the icy sidewalks, and the biting wind, defy the season change.
I do know that the sun feels warmer on my face (when it’s shining) and that it feels good to be outside, if one is properly dressed for the temperature.
So I encourage us all to get up off the couch and throw off the sloth of winter. Take advantage of the March sunshine, bundle up, and go for a walk with your family or friends.
We went to High Park on the weekend. What a treasure in the city of Toronto! We made our way into the ravine, down the paths to Grenadier Pond where we saw a pair of Canada geese walking on water (or so it appeared).
A little further along was a pair of white swans dunking their heads into the pond but coming up empty.
Per one of our young walker’s request, we climbed up the stairs to the site of the Children’s Garden. I would love to have stairs like that nearby our house for hill training – though I would prefer them not to have rotten wood to fall through and a rise and run more befitting someone with short legs like me : ) But I digress.
The walk continued along and up a hill where we found a labyrinth from which children needed to be rescued from the make-believe quick sand.
And finally we made our way to the swings and slides and monkey bars – fun for all ages. It was a great way to spend an afternoon and get the healthy glow of rosy cheeks.
We don’t always need to go to a gym to exercise. Exercise doesn’t need to be an unpleasant task to get through. It can be something enjoyable to incorporate into your day and can be a fun way to spend time with family and friends.
